In this short course students will be introduced to the signs and symptoms of dyslexia, popular myths and assessment/evaluation for dyslexia. The Orton-Gillingham approach will be examined and discussed. Course will also discuss current accommodations available to children and adults with dyslexia.

Topics/Learning Objectives

Upon completion of Dyslexia and the Orton Gillingham Course, the successful student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  1. Define and identify dyslexia
  2. Identify appropriate accommodations
  3. Identify what appropriate interventions should include
  4. Identify key researchers in the field of dyslexia
  5. Identify the alternative views about dyslexia
  6. Identify and understand the Orton Gillingham method

Live Online Students

Ashton College uses web conferencing tools (Zoom for Education) to help instructors and students connect and collaborate live online. Students should have access to a computer, laptop or smartphone to access the class sessions. To be able to participate in webinars, students need a webcam and headset, or a microphone and headphones, along with a high-speed internet connection.

    • Students must devote at least 3 hours per week to attend live webinars.
    • Webinars will be held on Wednesdays from 5:00 to 7:00 pm PST.
    • Outside of live instructional periods, students will be expected to take part in various independent and/or group activities.


Registration fee for this course is $320.

No books required. Optional materials and learning resources may be provided by instructor.


This course does not require approval by the Private Training Institutions Branch of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills & Training. As such, it was not reviewed.
