Dominic Therrien

Mr. Therrien has been a lawyer since 2002 and he has a long and diversified international experience as he lived in the United States, France and Mainland China where he worked for a few years to assist high net worth Chinese clients to immigrate to Canada. He represents many Canadian and international companies, including financial institutions, with respect to their business clients’ immigration needs as well as in regard to labor mobility. During his legal career he assisted hundreds of families to immigrate to Canada. In addition to obtaining a Quebec law degree and a Certificate of Qualification in common law, he pursued undergraduate studies in political science at the University of Montréal, and graduate studies in international politics at the prestigious Université de la Sorbonne (Paris, France). Mr. Therrien was called to the Law Society of Quebec (2002), to the Law Society of British Columbia (2010), and to the State Bar of California (2019). Mr. Therrien’s law career followed several years of playing professional baseball in the Atlanta Braves organization.

Al Parsai

Al Parsai is a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC). He runs his successful business in downtown Toronto, Ontario with many employees. Al is the author of “88 Tips on Immigration to Canada.” He is a member of ICCRC (Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council) and CAPIC (Canadian Association of Professional Immigration Consultants). Al has represented hundreds of applicants from more than 35 countries to the Canadian immigration authorities. Al, who holds a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology, has extensive experience as an author, trainer, and public speaker. He has written ten books and hundreds of articles in the past 20 years. Al has also delivered many courses, workshops, and speeches in four different countries. He also deals with the immigration process on a daily basis. He represents hundreds of applicants to the federal and provincial immigration authorities at the same time. Al is proud of his profession and recommends it to anyone who wants to help others build a better life.

Tess Acton

Tess Acton is an experienced lawyer who assists clients from all around the world with their Canadian immigration, refugee, and citizenship matters. She practices at Maynard Kischer Stojicevic in Vancouver and Victoria. Tess is keenly interested in litigation matters and refugee protection, as well as complex temporary and permanent residence applications, including criminal, security, and medical admissibility issues. She holds a J.D. from the University of Ottawa and an LL.M. from the University of Victoria. Her LL.M. research focused on working with interpreters in immigration and refugee law. Tess is the Vice Chair of the Excellence in Literacy Foundation and an active volunteer with Access Pro Bono. She keeps busy outside of work baking pastries, practising yoga, and planning road trips in her 1985 Westfalia.

Technical Requirements

Live Online Students

Ashton College uses web conferencing tools (Zoom for Education) to help instructors and students connect and collaborate live online. Students should have access to a computer, laptop or smartphone to access the class sessions. To be able to participate in webinars, students need a webcam and headset, or a microphone and headphones, along with a high-speed internet connection.

• Students must devote at least 3 hours per week to attend live webinars.
• Webinars will be held on Wednesdays from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm PST.
• Outside of live instructional periods, students will be expected to take part in various independent and/or group activities.

Registration fee for this course is $995.
